World Padel Tour headlining list of Marbella sporting events in 2019

World Padel Tour 2019

Another exciting sports event is confirmed for the Costa del Sol calendar this year with the World Padel Tour returning to Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara.

Alongside the region’s premier golf tournaments and sailing regattas is an international competition for racket sport loved and played by many in Spain.

From 17th to 24th March the two coastal municipalities will host an extensive series of matches between a field of the best players from around the world.

A total of 96 male and 54 female couples have registered to battle it out on the modern courts of the Real Club de Pádel de Marbella and the Palacio de Deportes Sampedreño Elena Benítez.

At a promotional event last month the Spanish tournament director Luis Torres and Marbella councillors Javier Mérida and Manuel Osorio, announced details for the forthcoming event and how it will benefit the local community.

“We are facing the most important test in the world of padel, as after five years, we regained the event for our city with the aim of it not only being a first-rate sporting event, but also a tourist and economic opportunity for the municipality,” stated Mérida.

The team were happy to impress that the San Pedro Town Council and Mayor of Marbella had negotiated a long term contract with the World Padel Organisation that would bring the lucrative competition to Marbella for the next three years.

The ultimate goal is that the tournament will remain in the resort after this initial timeframe, with the town becoming an important destination for padel tennis in Spain.

The international events and first class sport facilities available on the coast are another collective of great reasons to visit or buy a property here.
