Cabopino Beach, or Playa Artola as it is properly called, is said to be the sandiest beach on the Costa del Sol. At 1200 metres long, it is surrounded by areas of pine trees and natural sand dunes (las dunas de Artola) making it wonderfully private, secluded and sheltered from the wind.
The beach is the most important factor in the growth of the barrio of Cabopino and it’s quite different to the surrounding areas of Marbella centre and Calahonda. The developers working in and around Cabopino have built primarily low-rise buildings on the terraced land, ensuring as many properties as possible enjoy the breathtaking sea views. Many facilities have been provided in the area around the beach. A large car park near the entrance discourages random street parking and is great for families needing to unload their cars ready for a day by the sea. Showers and toilets have been constructed at regular intervals along the seafront, sunbeds are available to hire and lifeguards are watching over everybody during the peak summer months. Just on the edge of the beach, several beach bars/chiringuitos serve fresh fish, cold drinks, snacks and ice creams so you don’t have to wander far away from your sandcastles when you get hungry! Cabopino is just twelve kilometres from the centre of Marbella making it a very attractive proposition for residents working in the area, as well as second home owners and summer holidaymakers. Malaga Airport is 35 minutes drive away and there are frequent bus services running between Algeciras, Estepona, Marbella, Calahonda, Fuengirola, Mijas, Benalmadena and Malaga. To the east of the main beach area lies the Port of Cabopino. This attractive harbour incorporates 169 berths, each measuring between 8 and 16 metres, around which you will find a selection of good restaurants. Some of the well known favourites include Alberts on the Port, known for its theatrical live music and blend of traditional and contemporary food, and Hermosa, a small but elegant southern Californian bistro and grill which boasts progressive international cuisine. You can also find eateries serving Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Indian food, fresh fish, paella, tapas, cocktails and ice cream! Boat charters, dolphin and fishing trips and many other water sports companies are based here in the port.
Smart apartment buildings have been constructed around the harbour and commercial area. Most face south and are designed to maximise the view out to sea. There are smaller holiday boltholes with just one bedroom as well as larger properties with three or four bedrooms and spacious terraces. Apartments in Cabopino Port area are very sought after and command a premium price thanks to their proximity to the shops and restaurants and, most importantly, the wide sandy beach. Some are modern and frontline beach with super amenities, like Los Granados de Cabopino with its residents’ gym, tennis and padel courts, clubhouse, manicured gardens and large communal pools. Step back from these apartments and you will find yourself in beautiful tree lined streets. Immediately you begin to sense an air of exclusivity and appreciate the quiet and opulent atmosphere. The villas in this area come in all shapes and sizes, from rustic right through to super modern. All are low rise and ooze privacy. The other side of the main road at Cabopino is also very popular. Da Brunos have a beautiful Italian restaurant there with outdoor dining garden, perfect for summer evenings. A little way further up the hill is Cabopino Golf, a stunning 18-hole, par 71 golf course with amazing sea views, super restaurant and golf academy. The properties around the golf area of Cabopino are very varied in size and style. For example, the popular apartment complex Las Mimosas has spacious two and three bedroom apartments and spectacular penthouses overlooking the community gardens and pool areas. It is right next door to a new commercial area with shops, restaurant and bar and is within walking distance to the beach via a footbridge across the main road. On the other side of the golf course, townhouses rustic, contemporary or modern in style surround the course itself, enjoying a private location and panoramic views across the fairways and to the sea. Cabopino is a popular destination with residents and holidaymakers alike. Altavista Property Spain has some excellent properties for sale in Cabopino ranging from €159.950 for a two bedroom/one bathroom apartment overlooking the harbour to €3.000.000 for a cortijo style five bedroom detached villa with views across natural woodland and the sea.
