Expanding connections: Costa del Sol, the world’s destination

Expanding connections.

Every week more good news about the state of the healthy economy in Andalucía and in particular the Costa del Sol is published. The property market has bounced back convincingly from the slump of 2008, and local tourist chiefs have seen some impressive statistics released as visitor numbers have risen to record levels.

Málaga’s Pablo Ruiz Picasso airport has seen a commensurate increase in passengers, recently announcing that with 16,1 million seats on sale for this year’s high season, an extra 600,000 passengers will arrive based on the same period last year – a healthy 4,7% increase in flight arrivals.

With direct connections to 136 airports, the Costa del Sol really does prove to be the world’s destination, with new routes opening up all the time. Recently announced new destinations reflect growing ties with countries whose citizens are already regular visitors to this area or are visiting in increasing numbers.

Scandinavian countries have long proved loyal purchasers of both holiday homes and permanent residences on the Costa del Sol, which is reflected in Scandinavian Airline System (SAS) carrier consolidating its presence at Málaga Airport after carrying 105,000 passengers in 2017, or 31,5% more than the previous year.

Another growth region for tourists and property seekers is the Middle East, a trend highlighted with the expansion of routes offered by the national airline of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Airlines. As of the 9th June 2018, the Saudi capital Riyadh and tourist city of Jeddah will see twice weekly flights to Málaga throughout the summer.

The move was announced by the President of the Association of Andalusian Travel Agencies, Sergio García, confirming a “strengthening of local ties with the Gulf.” Qatar Airways also takes advantage of this trend, with flights from Málaga to Doha beginning in June.

All of which demonstrates the confidence being shown in Marbella and the Costa del Sol on a global basis, which is more great news for the local economy. Contact us for new property requirements in Marbella.
