It’s promoted as ‘the most important boutique festival’ in Europe, which by all accounts isn’t overstating the uniqueness and popularity of the event. The Starlite Festival is now a significant feature in the annual Marbella calendar that draws impressive musical acts and thousands of visitors each year.
What is so unique and special about Starlite?
Well, the venue for starters as the festival is held in a quarry just over a three kilometre drive up into the hills above Marbella and the coast. The musicians and singers perform to an intimate audience of three thousand outside and under the stars, with a sixty metre high illuminated rock face behind them.
As mother earth has provided the perfect natural amphitheatre, Starlite fans are treated to the most remarkable acoustics when experiencing a concert there. The sound quality has been praised even by the likes of Plácido Domingo and Julio Iglesias, who reportedly claimed the Starlite venue has “one of the best acoustics they have ever found.”
You arrive at Starlite via a shuttle bus that collects you from a car park located a short distance away and delivers you to the entrance of the festival. Alongside the quarry auditorium there are many bars and restaurants that serve a broad range of great food, including creative tapas and traditional burgers and chips. There is a food choice for everyone, regardless of age or how refined your pallet is.
An addition is the Starlite shop and shopping area – something a bit different for a festival – where the ultimate brands in fashion, accessories, technology et al are available for purchase. Fans that love the upmarket apparel of Antonio Banderas, Naomi Campbell and other high star celebrities can browse and shop to their hearts content.
However, the highlight of every visit (as it should be) are the musicians and singers themselves.
Starlite attracts the very best and most talented international stars every year and 2018 has been no exception. So far the quarry stage has hosted a lineup including Jamiroquay, Sting and Shaggy, Maná and The Pet Shop Boys, but it’s far from over! Still to perform as part of the 50-day concert itinerary, and in addition to an array of other brilliant acts, are Steven Tyler, James Blunt and Sara Baras.
Watch your favourite musical stars perform under celestial skies in a beautiful, atmospheric and intimate setting.
The Starlite Festival is just one more magical reason to spend time on the Costa del Sol.
