Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis leads the way in property sales
Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis – what do these three areas in Málaga province have in common?
According to a recent report by the Spanish National Statistics Office (INE), they are leading the way in terms of property prices and sales with only Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante achieving higher sales.
Locals have taken to calling the area between the three communities the ‘Golden Triangle’ such is the popularity of this region. Sales increased by 11,5% in 2017, a figure that is 10,4% higher than 2007, with demand outstripping supply in some of the more popular urbanisations.
Estepona in particular has seen a rise in demand with sales increasing by 28,3%. Many factors account for the boost in popularity. The current mayor has overseen a programme of enhancements to infrastructure as well as cosmetic improvements to the town, making it a more attractive place both to live permanently and to own a holiday home. Estepona also benefits from having a greater area of as yet undeveloped land, which, coupled with Marbella town hall having delays in issuing building licences, has meant that this lovely seaside town has definitely stepped out from the shadow of its better-known neighbour and become a hot destination in its own right.
Each area in the Golden Triangle bears its own distinct character, satisfying a wide range of property tastes and budgets. From beachfront luxury properties in Estepona, to spectacular sea views from the mountainside village of Benahavís, potential buyers are spoilt for choice.
A recent wave of stunning contemporary apartments and villas has delivered a choice of up-to-the-minute properties featuring technological and design advances, such as home automation and glass walls that seem to simply disappear, uniting the inside with outside living areas.
Marbella itself is of course ever popular, with some sought-after areas and urbanisations seeing prices almost doubling to those of before the financial slow-down of 2007. The superb climate, diversity of the property offering and sound infrastructure ensure that the Golden Triangle is a property success story that is set to run and run.
