Gibraltar Music Festival.
The fifth annual Gibraltar Music Festival kicks off in the Victoria Stadium with doors opening for a weekend full of music, comedy and dance from 14.00 hours on Saturday 3rd September.
The festival has gone from strength to strength since its inauguration in 2012, with 14,000 tickets sold in 2015. It’s a family friendly event too, providing free entrance for children under 12 (although they do need a ticket, available from the Ministry of Culture in Gibraltar).
Ticket holders will have access to eight stages (Main, Gibtelecom, Dance, Seaside, Acoustic, Seaside Dub Club, Comedy and Circus). This year’s fantastic line up of music from the 70s through to the current day includes sets from the Stereophonics, Ne-Yo, All Saints, Heather Small, Bryan Ferry, Toploader, Europe, Paul Young and KT Tunstall, to name but a few of the nearly 100 artists taking part. As well as big name stars, GMF16 is a great showcase for emerging talent – you’ll soon hear people saying they saw them there first!
The simplest way to purchase tickets is online at www.gibraltarmusicfestival.com for 83 pounds per day or 99 pounds for the weekend, plus booking fees. Limited numbers of VIP passes are available from 287 pounds plus booking fees, with access to VIP entrance, balconies, shaded chillout areas, toilets and, of course, all the stages, plus buffet, canapés and open bar. There’s also an exclusive afterparty at Ocean Village’s nightclub, Dusk. Gibraltar is easily accessible by car from Marbella. In less than an hour, you can drive to La Linea de la Concepcion, leave your car in one of the clearly demarcated car parks near the border and walk across to Victoria Stadium. But don’t forget your passport! The Festival is also running a bus service from towns along the Costa del Sol and Cádiz coast including Málaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Sabinillas and Tarifa. You will arrive at the stadium before the first act and leave after all the music has finished – it’s a great hassle free way to make sure you get to enjoy all the performances without worrying about arriving on time or finding a place to park, particularly if you haven’t visited Gibraltar before. Bus tickets are limited so reserve your place as soon as possible. The GMF16 organisers have launched six Spotify playlists to get festival goers in the mood for this year’s line up. They’re easy to find – just search for #GMF16 to discover their Chilled, Pop, Workout, BBQ Party, Rock and Homegrown playlists. What a climax to an incredible summer of music and culture on the Costa del Sol and Gibraltar in 2016. www.gibraltarmusicfestival.com for more information.
