Malaga film festival attracts star-studded attendance.

Last week the stage was set in Málaga to welcome some of the biggest names in Spanish and Latin American film as the Málaga Film Festival got underway. The week-long celebration saw some of the biggest names in film come to Málaga – adding to the city’s offering of history and culture while also promoting the Spanish film industry. This year was the 20th anniversary of the Málaga Film Festival, which has been hosted in the city since 1998. The glamorous festival is dedicated to promoting the very best in Spanish and Latin American film, showing both short and full-length feature films, and attracting a local and international star-studded attendance. One of the many famous faces to walk the red carpet this year was none other than Málaga’s very own Antonio Banderas, famous for the likes of Interview with the Vampire, The Mask of Zorro, Desperado and as the voice of ‘Puss’ in Shrek and Puss in Boots. A total of 40 films were nominated for the competition, 17 of which competed in the festival’s Golden Biznaga section. A selection of full length films out of the list of competition films was also screened over the week, including Maniac Tales, produced by Kike Mesa, and The Exchange, by Ignacio Nacho. lThis year, the film festival was accompanied by the GastroWeekend, a mini food festival officially opened by Michelin star chef Dani Garcia. The star of Marbella restaurants such as Bibo was one of many top local and national chefs drawn to the event. They led cooking demonstrations and workshops for both adults and children. Also adding to the vibrant atmosphere and cultural offering in the city was the Málaga Festival 20, an exhibition held at Calle Larios, which displayed images from the Málaga film festival from over the past 20 years Málaga is only a short distance from Marbella and makes for the perfect day out or weekend break for all the family.
