Marbella in September

Marbella in September.

In Marbella the end of summer is quite precise, in that the transition from the end of August into September brings some distinct changes. Summer does not simply fizzle out and segue into autumn in Marbella with nobody able to discern where one ends and the other begins, which is why you will hear so many Marbellís mentioning the fact that they “can’t wait for September.” What is so amazing about September on the Costa del Sol you may ask; well, it brings many benefits. Temperatures go down July and August are pretty hot on the Costa del Sol, and whilst the days of blazing sunshine bring the much-welcomed tourists to the area, for those who live here year round it can feel like two months of being surrounded by scores of tourists having a great time. But, in the first week of September, that heat suddenly turns down a notch or two, to the point where it is gorgeous to be outdoors, whether a stroll, a game of golf or sitting on the beach. The average temperature for September is 22°C, which is as perfect a climate as you are likely to find anywhere in Europe, and the likelihood of rain is still some time away. It really is the perfect time to be in Marbella. Clear roads If you have driven in Marbella during July and August, you will probably be aware that the roads get very busy. Then September comes, the traffic becomes lighter and it is easier to get from A to B once again. Similarly, it is less challenging to get seats, tables and be served at beach resorts, chiringuitos, restaurants and bars. It’s good for golf The summer and golf are not well matched in Marbella. It is simply too hot for much of the day, though many still play in the mornings and evenings. However, September sees a return to the fairways in earnest, amid a number of major tournaments that restart the golf season in September. September Events With the holiday season over, Marbella gets into the swings of its autumn events. This year the Marbella International Film Festival runs from 28th September to 3rd October and it promises to be even better than last year’s festival. Tennis fans can enjoy the Senior Masters Cup at the Puente Romano from 22nd – 24th September when John McEnroe, Yannick Noah and Mats Wilander are the top stars on the court. Furthermore, the nightlife doesn’t stop just because it’s September and you can find pool parties and spectacular nightclub events throughout the month. September in Marbella – it’s when life returns to ‘normal’ here. And we love it!
