Marbella has been named as one of the tourist favourites amongst other Spanish destinations including Malaga, Barcelona and Madrid. The awards were given by travel website TripAdvisor and have awarded various Spanish destinations based on the website’s user ratings about hotels, restaurants and places of interest. Mayor Angeles Muñoz collected the award for Marbella from the General Manager of Turespaña, Marta Blanco. Muñoz said the award was recognition for the efforts of Marbella over previous years, and was an excellent way to reinforce the image of Marbella as a tourist destination. She added that it would encourage the city hall and local businesses to maintain the good standards they are already providing. Andalusia is the Spanish region with the most awarded destinations as Marbella, Sevilla, Malaga, Granada and Cordoba have all been named as favourites. Marbella is a popular tourist destination in Spain and attracts many to the area of Costa del Sol. Home to an excellent marina as well as beautiful beaches, the town of Marbella is considered one of Spain’s prime holiday destinations. It’s also an excellent spot for property purchases as the market offers luxury high-end properties, which remain at relatively low prices as the Spanish property market continues to recover. Tourism in Spain is one of the major industries and the tourism industry has just seen record spending by international tourists between the months of January and February this year.
