Dog friendly beaches in Marbella.
The Costa del Sol is set to become a first class choice for canine lovers thanks to a recent announcement that two dog-friendly beaches have been given the green light in the Marbella area. Last week the Euro Weekly News reported that due to an increasing demand for dog-friendly beaches over the past few years, it was time to make a change.
The two strips of beach that have been specially selected as the new canine-friendly areas are in El Pinillo, near Trocadero Arena (just a few minutes’ drive from Marbella centre) and Ventura del Mar in Nueva Andalucía, both of which are less popular with beach-goers, allowing dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds to enjoy the open space without any restrictions. Until now, dogs were forbidden from dipping their hot paws in the sea in Marbella and instead owners were limited to walking them at one of the local dog parks or in the campo (woodland areas).
Alternatively they could make the drive to Castillo Sohail in Fuengirola or Playa Arroyo Totalan in Málaga to the small dog-friendly zones there. For many dog owners who own a holiday home in Marbella, or who have recently relocated to the area, having to leave their pet at home while the rest of the family enjoys a fun-filled day out can be inconvenient resulting in time restrictions being placed on days out when they don’t want to leave their pet alone for too long. The new dog-friendly beaches will mean that furry family members can now enjoy their vacation in the sun as much as their owners ─ whether it be chasing a ball in the sand or cooling down in the sea. The new beaches will also allow dog owners to take advantage of sunrise and sunset walks along the beach any day they choose, which is the perfect way to start and end the day and also a beneficial form of exercise for pet and owner alike.
While it’s great to be able to include a pet in family activities it’s also important to remember that it can become very hot here during the summer months, and so the beach should be avoided at the hottest point of the day. Providing shaded areas will also help to keep pets cool, and it’s vital to remember to bring a bottle of water and water bowl to ensure that your dog is kept hydrated at all times. Another essential point to keep in mind is that as the owner, you are responsible for your pets and there are certain rules to follow. For example, all dogs must remain under control, must have their vaccinations up to date and owners must clean up after their dog. Failing to do so will result in a hefty fine!
