Property Sales in Marbella Rise Yet Again

Property sales in Marbella rise yet again.

The summer is nearly over and already there is a buzz about what the final quarter of the year will bring to Marbella’s real estate market. There is much optimism in the air thanks to press reports indicating that this year’s holidaymakers have been avidly searching the web for homes on the Costa del Sol on their return home. Of course, some may put this down to a case of post-holiday enthusiasm for a place in the sun, but statistics for sales earlier this year suggest that there is a solid foundation to thinking that overseas buyers are flocking to buy Spanish property.

The first quarter of 2017 revealed that sales of residential property in Marbella matched those of the same period in 2016, and even showed an increase. And in June, sales in all of Spain rose by 19.3% to 44,135, which is the highest number since the first quarter of 2011. Growth in the Marbella real estate market has been steady since 2013, making it one of the areas of the country with the greatest number of property transactions—matching Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Málaga for demand.

Indeed, in Spanish real estate what happens in Marbella soon spreads to the rest of the country and this seems to be holding true. It is also interesting to note that while Marbella has the highest number of sales outside Málaga city, Estepona is making strong headway in the market and has shown that it has great potential too. There were 946 residential properties sold in the first quarter of 2017 in Estepona compared with 476 in the same period of 2016. This represents an even larger increase than that seen in Marbella and is a testament to Estepona’s growing popularity.
