Unblocking of town planning issues sees results.
The real estate situation in Marbella is looking brighter than ever after steps taken by the recently re-installed mayor Angéles Muñoz and her coalition council are seen to be bearing fruit. The local construction market was dealt a setback in 2015 when the updated town plan of 2010 was deemed to be illegal and all construction had to rely on the 1986 plan (or PGOU), which was out of date and scarcely fit for purpose.
At the end of September, the new mayor and her councillors declared that an amendment making the 1986 PGOU legal meant that the planning process could finally start being unblocked. As a result of this, it was announced this week that major investment projects have been approved to the value of €17million. It will take place mainly in the Nueva Andalucía area, focusing on two residential complexes of forty one and forty four homes with a value of €7,2m and €7,7m respectively – providing a major boost to the local economy.
The construction of a luxury villa in La Cerquilla as well as three Santa Clara properties with an investment value of €900,000 are among the smaller projects that have been set free. Council spokesperson Félix Romero commented, “Our aim has been to unblock the situation and we’re seeing the effects already.” Nueva Andalucía has long been popular among residents and holidaymakers alike who flock to the area due to its attractive residential urbanisations of apartments and villas as well as the many top class golf courses, for which it is nicknamed the ‘golf valley’. Nueva Andalucía also enjoys close proximity to world famous Puerto Banús and Marbella.
