For an alternative to beach and poolside afternoons, the cable ski lake in San Pedro Alcántara is a fabulous day out for all the family and a great spot for meeting up with friends. The large man-made lake in Guadalmina Alta has long been a popular hangout for young wake boarders and water-skiers, who spend days, weekends and whole summers here perfecting their skills as they surf and ski around the vast lake, braving jumps and doing stunts or chilling with friends in the shade or sun of the grassy lawns. But, following last year’s complete refurbishment, this fabulous lake venue has been turned into a chic and stylish spot for families and ‘fashionistas’ alike. The owners have transformed this once neglected site and breathed new life into it! Ridding it of plastic chairs, broken sun loungers, archaic structure and an outdated menu, they have turned it into a vibrant and fashionable spot for dining, lounging, sunbathing and whiling the afternoons away. The restaurant area has been stripped bare, exposing a bright and open space, furnished with long tables and benches created from eco-friendly, reclaimed materials. Tables, chairs, benches and sun loungers have been fabricated from large wooden crates, sheets of glass and wood, creating fresh and funky furniture. The menu is simple, family-friendly and serves a popular range of salads, wraps and burgers. There is also a BBQ, which burns throughout the weekends and holidays, where you can choose to have grilled a variety of daily specials from steaks to sausages. To the end of the restaurant a bar has been added that serves fresh juices, smoothies and a delicious range of cocktails for those who are lounging by the pool or stretched out on the sun beds. Down by the lake, the boathouse is fully stocked with life-jackets, skis, wake-boards, helmets and all the necessary paraphernalia for taking a trip round on the cable. You can buy a single ticket, a day pass or a book of up to fifty tours of the lake to use throughout the season. All equipment is provided along with your ticket or you can use your own, and for novices there are knee-boards, which are a fun and easy way to start out! Dotted around the lake, large four-poster sun bed structures have been positioned; where sun kissed bodies sprawl out on double mattresses, as groups of bikini-clad girls soak up the sun under the white curtains flowing in the breeze. On the main lawn a large trampoline has been mounted, with ropes and boards for youngsters to practice their balancing before taking to the lake, but more often than not smaller children invade it and a cluster of children of all ages bounce about happily, as they run about on the grass playing ballgames or hide and seek. At the far end of the land there is a swimming pool, around which families relax and sunbathe whilst children jump and splash about with great enthusiasm. As the sun sets, the whole lake glows with a golden light and the landscape affords some of the most picturesque photo opportunities as silhouetted surfers cast their shadows across the water. Whether you are after an action packed day out riding the lake or simply a leisurely afternoon in a scenic location, the wake-lake has all the comforts you could require, from WiFi to wine coolers, and is a great day out for little ones and big kids alike!
