Estepona’s new hospital ready for 2019
The work that began in June 2017 is soon to be completed just two years later, as Estepona’s new hospital is handed over to the local authorities this month for the beginning of a period of fitting out.
Once fully fitted and equipped, the hospital is set to open its doors to patients by no later than the end of summer 2019.
The state-of-the-art healthcare facility, which represents an investment of 17.7 million euros from Estepona’s town hall and the Junta de Andalucía, will be well qualified to cater for the fast-growing population in the area with its excellent modern care and facilities.
The hospital will also become one of the main employers in the town, initially taking on some 150 healthcare professionals.
January 2019 will see the beginning of installation work, with the arrival of new high-tech medical equipment. The town’s mayor, José María García Urbano, describes the new hospital as a “milestone for Estepona,” and highlights that, “it will be the biggest infrastructure project of the past few decades…and will represent a significant improvement in the quality of healthcare services.”
The hospital is situated in the Santa María area of the town, west of the centre centre, and covers a built area of 14,300m2 on a total plot of 60,166 m2 of beautiful landscaped parkland, creating a pleasant, green environment to aid patients’ recovery programmes and provide an attractive work environment for staff, visitors and patients alike.
The centralised facilities and services all in a single location are predicted to cut waiting lists and improve emergency care, both factors that patients find so important when seeking quality healthcare. In addition to all the latest equipment, the hospital will include specialised departments for radiology, hospitalisation, surgery, paediatrics and women’s health.
With the capacity to handle 85,000 appointments per year, more than 90,000 emergency visits and as many as 4,000 operations, it’s expected that the new hospital will provide a valuable one-stop facility for the people of Estepona.
