Sierra Nevada Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships 2017.
Last week Sierra Nevada hosted the 2017 Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships, in what was the second time that the competition for both disciplines has ever been carried out together. The competition, which saw over 700 skiers and snowboarders visit Sierra Nevada from 20 different countries to display their impressive skills against the back drop of the beautiful mountain landscapes of the Sierra Nevada, was a great success. Both skiing and snowboarding uses the halfpipe, cross course and slope styles to compete in a range of events including Big Air, Half pipe, Parallel Slalom, Parallel Giant Slalom, Snowboard Cross and Slopestyle. With the freestyle contest consisting of Dual Moguls, Moguls, Aerials, Ski cross, Slopestyle and Half pipes. As well as the main competition, there was a range of other fun entertainment options taking place at the ski centre including live music, an amateur circuit for skateboarders, and a balance exhibition where acrobats exhibited their flexibility. The championship was broadcast in 25 countries and a total of 37 events were shown live throughout the ten-day event ─ putting Sierra Nevada on the winter sports map. Freestyle skiing and snowboarding requires intensive training and is not recommended for everyone, however, Sierra Nevada does make for the perfect family day out during the winter and spring months.
